The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, from September 25th through October 10th. The Kentucky Rotary Clubs are raising funds for the “End Polio Now” campaign by staffing the concessions at the WEG. Sunday, September 13^th from 3 p.m. ‘til 8 p.m. ‘ish

Mark your calendars now to join us for a Fall Family Fun affair for the Rotary Club of Lexington, held at Spindletop Hall on 13 September 2009. As a kickoff to our fundraising efforts for 2010, we’ll have a door prize drawing for five lucky Rotarians to win a ticket to the 2010 Sweetheart Soiree, benefitting the Surgery on Sunday Lexington Rotary Club Endowment Fund.

Just a short 7 miles from Downtown Lexington, Spindletop Hall is a bluegrass treasure. We’ll get to experience it all on Sunday September 13^th from 3 p.m. until whenever your fellow Rotarian Gerald Marvel kicks you out (not likely)! All you’ve got to do is come, and at only $5 per adult and $3 per child, you won’t want to miss out. There will be a Croquet tutorial and play beginning at 3 p.m. (signup strongly encouraged) on the area’s only professional quality croquet court. For those not interested in wearing the whites (just kidding, Croquet Whites are not required for this event), we’ll have a Cornhole Tournament beginning at 4 p.m. Pick a partner, or let us pick you a partner, and get ready to toss ‘til you drop. We’ll have a small entry fee to fund the prize for the winning team.

There’ll also be swimming (the last chance in Lexington for the season), tennis, and board games, and all around fun for the kids. We’ll be entertained by the musical genius of another fellow Rotarian, and be able to order a la carte from the great Tiki Bar menu at Spindletop. The menu includes Angus burgers, salmon burgers, quesadillas, vegetarian options, and much more. And lest we forget, there’ll be beverages aplenty, and a great selection including specialty cocktails (full bar) and smoothies, for the young and the young at heart. There’ll be a Rotarian’s Special to boot!

Join your fellow Rotarians, and bring the family, for a laid back afternoon of fellowship and fun and a chance to win a ticket to the Sweetheart Soiree 2010, a great event for a great cause. Please make your reservations (so the Spindletop Service Team can properly prepare ) by calling Spindletop Hall at 859-255-2777 and letting them know how many adults and how many children you’ll be bringing for the fun, and if you would like to sign up for the Croquet challenge or the Cornhole Tournament.

2009 Rotary Group Study Exchange Team

The Lexington Rotary Club will host the 2009 Group Study Exchange Team from India April 19-23. We are now recruiting Rotarians to be vocational/professional hosts for one day, possibly Monday, April 20. The members of this year’s team include:

Team Leader: Dr. Prem Thakur, a general surgeon MALE
Mridula Singh.Im, a medical doctor with experience in rural health care FEMALE
Sirvinderjit Singh Dua, an electronics and communication engineer. MALE
Surender Kumar Soni, an electronics and communication engineer. MALE
Gagan Pal Singh, an architect MALE

If you are in a business or profession similar to one of those listed here and would consider consulting one day with a guest, please contact Sayre Combs (272-0897, sayrecombs@gmail.com).

We also need one more host family. If you would consider hosting a guest. please contact Bob Ross (278-3290, jrross@anchorcounseling.com) NOTE: The host family is not required to “entertain” his/her guest every day. The GSE committee will have a full schedule of activities planned for the team including one day with the vocational/professional host.
